Fall 2020 Plans - Phase 1 - K - 12

Assalamo Alaikom, Dear Parents!

We hope that inshaAllah you and your loved ones are doing well and staying safe.

We are grateful for your feedback throughout the ongoing health crisis. Needless to say, the unpredictability of the situation and the worsening situation have made planning for the upcoming school year challenging. A number of events that have taken place over the past week have helped us refine our plans which include a phased-in approach. We will begin our upcoming school year for K-12 with phase 1, which will include online instruction. This temporary phase will transition to phase 2 as soon as possible. By having a phased-in approach, we will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of all of our plans and safety measures daily. Please see below for more details about what Phase 1 entails:

Phase 1 - August 10th start online for K-12
- We have been monitoring the situation closely and made the determination that starting the school year online would be most prudent. For parents with children who are immunocompromised or high-risk family members this arrangement is a need more than a want.
- Case-by-case exceptions will be provided for students who need to have in-person instruction. Those select students will be present on campus. These exceptions include, for instance, children of essential employees who both work and children of staff members. Please reach out to us at alhadi@alhadi.com, if you would like to be considered for in-person instruction. All safety guidelines will be in effect for students attending school in-person during phase 1.
- Phase 1 of instruction will continue until the end of Quarter 1 or end sooner if possible. We will be closely monitoring the situation and by leveraging our small campus size, we will be able to quickly transition to phase 2 when safe. Phase 2 will include more students safely attending the school for in-person instruction.
- During phase 1 we will continue gathering information about local government, school districts, and community dynamics (including response at Muharram events).

New and updated components of the online system:
Major differences between the online system in Fall and what we used in Quarter 4, include:
- A more powerful Learning Management System (LMS)
- A single sign-on (SSO) for streamlining the access to the learning content
- Availability of a more powerful communication tool for all students (Microsoft Teams)
- Increased number of hours of instruction
- Supporting students in managing the workload between classwork and homework
- Improved technology and resources for teachers
- Availability of training for parents and students to be fully set up before the first day of school

Plans for addressing the social/emotional needs:
At Al-Hadi we care about the students' holistic well-being. The closeness of our school community means we must address the educational as well as social/emotional development of our children. To that end, we are planning a number of events for social support, physical fitness, and even the emotional well-being of parents, staff and students. For example, outdoor events that allow for students to see each other, engage in sports activities on our completed soccer field, and maybe even meet for homework help are a few of the many ideas that are in the works. InshaAllah, we plan to develop a staggered schedule that addresses these needs for each individual grade level weekly.

It is our hope that we see an improvement in the current situation in Houston very soon. We will be unveiling the features of the new and improved online instructional model through webinars during the last two weeks of July. We will have each child's account setup and have a team of individuals who will be supporting you through this process. We are confident that you will find the improvements that we have made to the online model capable of addressing the concerns that you shared with us.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we are optimistic that we will, together, overcome the adversity. Preschool plans will be communicated in the coming days as we continue gathering responses from key stakeholders.  Stay tuned for the flyer announcing the webinar and training dates.
