​​Position Summary

The Director of Spiritual & Social Enrichment (Director of Edification/Tarbiyah) will play a pivotal role in upholding the values and standards of our Islamic educational institution while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and conducive learning environment for all students. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of Islamic principles, and a commitment to promoting positive behavior and character development among students aligned with and delivery of our Foundational goal. This position supports and acts as a thought partner and collaborator with the Resident Alim, Principal, Director of Campus Culture & Religious Studies, Islamic Education Board, and senior school leadership.

​​Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hawza Studies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or related field.

  • Leadership skills with high emotional intelligence.

  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in verbal and written English.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and community members from varying backgrounds.

  • A thorough understanding of the challenges faced by the Muslim youth in our society.

  • Commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, preferably in a school or equivalent setting.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong ethical values and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.

​​Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of work experience in a professional setting.

  • Knowledge of educational trends, research, and best practices, with the ability to apply this knowledge to the development of effective educational programs and policies.

  • Master's degree in liberal arts or related field.

​​Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Implement Policies Fostering Student Spiritual Growth (Nurturing Students)

    • ​​​Propose, implement, and regularly review school’s policies in respect to student nurturing consistent with Islamic principles and the school's foundational goal.

    • ​​​Review student behavior trends and suggest policies and strategies for rectification and improvements.

    • Investigate escalated behavior incidents, gather relevant information, and collaborate with teachers, counselors, and parents to recommend appropriate interventions and resolutions to the disciplinary committee, whilst remaining accountable for the decision.

    • ​​​Devise intervention plans, such as counseling, behavior contracts, student conduct consequences, as warranted by the student’s behavior and the best interests of the student and the school community.

    • ​​​Ensure that student expectations and behavior policies are communicated clearly to students, parents, and staff members on a timely basis and in response to requests.

  2. Teach courses as required

    One Iqra course and one non-Iqra course per semester across multiple classes

    Teach courses as required, engaging students in a safe environment. Develop and deliver at least one Islamic studies course (One Iqra) and one non-Iqra course across multiple classes each semester. Apart from being a subject matter expert, the goal of teaching is to foster student engagement, encourage dialogue, and establish a safe space for students to interact and inquire. This proactive and preemptive approach offers valuable insights into understanding student behavior, cultural nuances, concerns, desires, and necessities. It enables the development of targeted interventions tailored to meet student’s specific needs effectively.

  3. Educate and Train Staff and Parents

    • ​​Create and implement staff training and development programs to promote a culture of personal spiritual development and growth. (Dars al-Akhlaq) (Train the Trainers)

    • ​​Conduct regular workshops and training session for teachers and staff members about methodologies of nurturing students (tarbiyah) including but not limited to:

      • ​​Purpose of Education from the Qur’an and Hadith

      • Etiquette of the Teacher and the Student from an Islamic Lens

      • ​​Behavioral and Disciplinary policies

      • Conflict resolution strategies

      • Proactive approaches to maintaining a positive school culture.

    • ​​Collaborate with the Principal, leadership team, and faculty to develop and implement school-wide initiatives aimed at promoting positive behavior, character development, and a supportive learning environment.

    • Provide leadership and guidance to teachers and staff on disciplinary policies, procedures, and best practices, ensuring consistency and alignment with the school's mission and values the primary sources of the Islamic tradition, including the Qur’an and hadith.

    • ​​Serve as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and the school administration regarding disciplinary matters, facilitating open communication and resolution of issues in a timely and professional manner.
