If you discipline a child, leave him room to turn away from his wrong action so that you do not leave him with stubbornness as his only way out. - Imam Ali (as)

Principal's Message

A Message from Our Principal, Dr. Humaira Bokhari

Accomplishment starts with a decision to try.

August 1, 2018

Asalaamu alaikum Al-Hadi School Families,

Within the next few days, we will open our school doors to welcome you to the new year.  Together, we will create a year of excellence for our children as we focus on improving student and family engagement, implementing the State and College Board Standards and creating and maintaining a culture of academic excellence.  We are determined to deliver excellent instruction, and we will create a school where safety, respect, accountability, support and excellence are highly evident in an Islamic environment.

We will continue to focus on making our vision and mission the core of our daily work with children, teachers and parents.  Our intent is to create a culture of college readiness and this is the year we will build shared understandings about what this means and ways parents and teachers can work together to ensure that every AHS student is college ready.

Please take time to read this entire opening letter so that you can learn about our expectations and the very important work we will do together this year.

Parents, we know you want the best for your children! So do we! We are on the same team. High performing schools have highly effective leaders, teachers, and teams. These schools also excel in family and community engagement. This year, we expect that you will stay closely connected and involved in your child’s academic, social and spiritual growth.

MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS IN SCHOOL AND ARRIVES ON TIME EACH DAY!!!

Our expectations are vastly high this year. They are high for me as the principal and learner of our school, and they are very high for each boy, girl, teacher and parent in our community. Parents, it is very important that children are present and on time every day!  Homeroom begin at 7:50 am and Instruction begins at 8:00 am sharp! Children who arrive after 7:50 am will be marked tardy! If we want our children to be college ready, and if we want them to meet the AHS standards, we must ensure they do not miss instruction. Excellent attendance is the first step to helping our children become college ready.  Learning is exciting, your children won’t want to miss a single moment!

Our bell schedule has changed. Our school day begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:15 pm. School doors will open at 7:00 am.  Teachers and staff arrive at 7:30 am.  Students who are dropped off early are expected to go directly to the playroom or dining room and not linger in the hallways for safety purposes. At 7:45 a.m. they may proceed to their classroom.

In the best interest of our children, the AHS attendance team will create a chronic absence watch list and make phone calls as and when needed. Do aim for perfect attendance so that we can celebrate you and your child at our annual awards ceremonies.

CREATE A CULTURE OF LEARNING AT HOME AND BE INVOLVED IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

The State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.

In order for our children to achieve these standards, we expect you to create a culture of learning at home. We will support you with this by inviting you to participate in parent teacher conferences and to communicate with the teachers on a regular basis.

Your primary goal this year parents is to help us help your children achieve at least 96% attendance at least 90% subject mastery, and 100% homework completion. Specifically, I am asking that you partner with us in increasing the academic progress of your child by doing the following:

1.       Limit the amount of television watching each day;

2.       Make sure that your child is well rested by having a set bedtime each evening;

3.       Monitor and support your child’s reading, mathematics and writing at home

4.   Make sure that your child has a quiet place to complete homework and has support with the work. If your child needs help and does not have support at home be sure to ask for help;

5.      Attend parent teacher conference to learn about your child’s areas of strengths and areas that need support;

6.       Monitor your child’s involvement in social media;

7.       Know who your child’s friend are;

8.  Get involved in your child’s life and activities

9.      Reinforce the AHS expectation that your child come to school ready to follow school rules, listen to adults, and be productive citizens in the AHS teaching and learning community.

COMPLY WITH THE AHS UNIFORM POLICY

This year, uniforms will not change. We will be reinforcing 100% compliance with our school uniform policy as a part of our efforts to continue improving the learning climate and safety of our school. There will be NO ‘free uniform’ days. Children must wear their school uniform every day!   Only Juniors and Seniors will have the privilege to have a ‘free uniform day’ on Friday. Please support the school policy and ensure your child/ren are in complete compliance.  Help and support us as we raise our standards and expectations.

Participate in PTO and School sponsored events

Partner with other parents to volunteer.  Sign up for different events or spend time in the library, classroom or organizing events and of course fund raising.  There will be many opportunities for you to partner with the school.  Your child’s teacher will let you know when your presence is needed.

You will be pleased to know that our students STAAR scores increased significantly.  However, we will continue to strive for more improvement.  100% of the class of 2018 graduated on the ‘Distinguished Graduating Plan’. All of them have been accepted to universities and colleges of higher learning.

We are excited to welcome new teachers to our school community- teachers who are passionate about our school vision and mission.  Sr. Sahibah Kugshia is our new art teacher.  Please join me in welcoming her.

 Finally, as the principal of Al-Hadi I will be working closely with the learning community with the aim of confronting mediocrity and creating a culture of professionalism and excellence. We have a lot to be excited about as we continue our journey to overcome challenges and take Al-Hadi to the next level.

I sincerely look forward to your continued cooperation and support.  Do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any concerns or questions.

Let this be the best year yet!
